£1300 'Shepherd's Hamper' has been won

Overjoyed and excited was the reaction of Keith Williams when he was told he had won £1300 in prizes from the Lleyn Sheep Society.

As part of the 2011 promotions for the Lleyn Sheep Society they joined together with several national companies to build a prize bundle known as the 'Shepherds Hamper' worth £1300.

All that you had to do was complete a simple questionnaire about your current and future farming practices which was available on the Society Promotional Stand or on the Society website. The names of everyone who took part were put into a hat and drawn at the Royal Welsh Show in July.

The lucky winner is Mr Keith Williams from Hendy, Llandrindod Wells. Mr Williams farms his family farm with his wife Ali and their two daughters. He has 350 acres where he produces prime lamb for Waitrose. He started using the Lleyn ram four years ago on his 800 commercial ewes (Welsh Mule and Texel ), taking advantage of the better confirmation than the other breeds previously used. The Lleyn is enabling Mr Williams to breed his own flock replacements hence removing the cost of annual purchases. The Lleyn suits his practice where everything is wintered out and only brought in for lambing in April.

Mr Williams is not a member of the Society but he has won a year's free membership to the Society. He also won a £250 voucher to purchase registered females, he made use of this voucher when purchasing a pen of ewe lambs at the Carmarthen Sale.

Mr Williams is pictured being presented with his prize by Miss Nia Williams, Society President at the recent Carmarthen Sale.

When asked to comment on his success, Mr Williams said he was both "shocked and surprised but very pleased" at his win.

The prize consists of a £250 Trident Feeds voucher, IAE Self locking gate worth £220, Border Software programme voucher worth £350, £100 Marr & MacGregor voucher, a £100 Pearson Farm Supplies voucher and a free annual subscription to The Northern Farmer magazine. Also the Lleyn Sheep Society have given a free 12 months membership subscription and a £250 voucher to be used at the Society sales throughout the autumn

Cyfieithiad CymraegWelsh Welcome
Lleyn sheep originate from the Lleyn peninsula in Wales and until recently were a relatively unfamiliar breed of sheep in the UK.
Over the past 10 years the Lleyn breed has caught the eye of many farmers, and now Lleyn sheep can be found almost all over Britain & Ireland. Farmers soon find that the Lleyn is an ideal ewe, quiet in nature, prolific, has great maternal instincts, milky & will not eat you out of house and home. The Lleyn fits in to many situations and its versatility suits both lowland and upland grazing.
