The last Society sale of the season took place at CCM Skipton, where an increased entry of 346 head of Lleyn sheep witnessed prices for shearling ewes peak at £245 per head.

The top price shearling ewes resided from the pen of H & M Dugdale & Son, Borrins flock, Stackhouse, Settle, and were snapped up by J Duerden & Son, Blacko.

WJ & DJ Williams, Nefyn sold his best pen of shearling ewes to £240 per head, which were bought by G Hodkinson, Chipping.

S Kavanagh, Draughton produced pens of shearling ewes at £240, £215, £205 per head, which sold to Little Manor Farm, Nottinghamshire. The same buyer also purchased another pen at the same price from A Hughes.

Ewe lambs peaked at £180 for the first prize pen of five from J Morton, Bank Hall flock, Kirkland, Penrith. The buyer was T Clipsham, Barnby-in-the-Willows, Newark, who also claimed a further pen from the same home at £155 per head.

Fixture regulars, the Fort family, Brightonhouse flock, Steeton sold their best pens of ewe lambs at £170 and £150 per head, both of which sold to N Speake, Slitheroford Farm, Oakworth.

WJ & DJ Williams, Morfa Nefyn attained £170 per head for his pen leaders, which were knocked down to E Armstead, Brow Top Barn, Harrogate, whilst W Davies’ pen of ewe lambs went under the hammer at £165 to P Kirk, Stone House Cote, Driffield.

Next best at £150 per head were the third prize pen of ewe lambs from H & M Dugdale, which were snapped up by S Wisher, Park Farm.

Amongst the males, it was the first ram into the sale ring and sole male entry from Arfon Hughes, Ty Cerrig, Garndolbenmaen, that claimed 800gns top price for his entry, Cae Rhos Madog (00287/2303678). Not shown as Mr Hughes was adjudicating at the annual breed highlight, the top price shearling – sired by the 2022 Royal Welsh Show reserve champion (00050/2006491) – found a new home in Lancashire with G Hodkinson.

The judge’s overall reserve champion was the first prize shearling from Cumbrian father and son duo, Peter and David Knowles, Cragg flock, New Hutton, Kendal. Their well-utilised Cragg Mylo (00886/2307930), is out a home-bred ewe and by stock sire (01228/1913876). Shown by David, the overall runner-up sold for 600gns to S Alker and MO Kinnes, Driffield.

A stylish TACHO shearling tup (00350/2308578) from WJ & DJ Williams caught the eye of buyers when selling at 550gns to J Bealby & Sons, Mansfield. He is out of a home-bred ewe and sired by the Lluest stock ram (00599/2011941).

Next in the trade stakes at 500gns were two tups from W Davies, specifically Bronallt Maldwyn and Bronallt Mick. Both tups are sired by the stock ram (01158/1906892), with Maldwyn heading home with G Hodgkinson whilst Mick – who stood third in show – sold to J & A Barrow, Appleby.
