The Lleyn ewe is known for her adaptability, versatility and hardiness, allowing the breed to thrive in any environment across the UK.
Here we take a look at how the Lleyn breed is being commercially utilised by farmers up and down the country.
CRAGG FARM, KENDAL
Producing top quality pedigree and commercial stock on a regular basis is no easy feat, however Cumbrian-based breeder David Knowles is able to achieve just that by relying on the productive and efficient traits of the Lleyn breed.
Home to a flock of 400 ewes, all sheep on Cragg Farm have something to do with a Lleyn. Whether it’s selling pedigree Lleyn females at the Autumn Society Sales or by producing top quality cross-bred commercial Lleyn females, David has built a reputable flock and customer base for his stock.
Using a Texel on some of the farm’s Lleyn Mules also produces great cross-bred prime lambs, as well as another breeding female to sell on.
